This project, commissioned by Wallpaper* magazine, represents an alternative to the 'second home'; an evolution of the canal house-boat typology combining the benefits of city living alongside the opportunity for rural escape into a single flexible dwelling.
The house is a string of 'coracles', each constructed from a gridshell of synthetic rods. Flexible tunnels between the coracles, gently bellow light and air with the movement of the water, contracting to conserve heat at night and to ease travel.
The bathroom, living and bedrooms are lined in fibreglass, tatima matting and wool rugs respectively. The floor of each coracle can be lifted to accommodate various uses; bathing, storage and sleeping within a simple plan, a 'vesica piscis' formed from the intersection of two circles. A fitting plan-form for this water bound craft of life.
